Bright-room clarity starts with the right throw distance
A washed-out picture or awkward wall position can spoil an otherwise good projector setup. This guide examines the benq ah500st projector alongside related BenQ and ViewSonic models, using supplied manufacturer specifications and listed user feedback rather than hands-on testing. The goal is simple: match brightness, resolution, throw ratio, and connectivity to the room you actually have.
The AH500ST listings specify Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, HDR support, a 0.499 short-throw ratio, and a laser light source rated for up to 20,000 hours in normal mode or 38,000 hours in ECO mode. Its listed 16.7 ms input lag at 1080p and 120Hz may suit fast games, while horizontal and vertical keystone adjustment can help with placement. Buyers comparing screen size and room lighting can also review this projector brightness guide before pairing a screen.

FAQs
Is the AH500ST a native 4K projector?
No, the supplied specifications list native Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. The projector accepts sources from VGA through 4K UHD, but that input compatibility does not make its projected image native 4K. Buyers wanting native 4K should compare a model specifically listed with 3840 x 2160 resolution, such as the ViewSonic LS901-4K.
Can a 0.499 throw ratio help in a small room?
Yes, a 0.499 short-throw ratio is designed for a large image from a relatively close position. The exact screen size and distance still depend on the projector’s placement chart and installation conditions. This setup can reduce the chance of standing between the projector and screen, but measure the wall before buying.
Is the AH500ST suitable for gaming?
Yes, the listing states 16.7 ms input lag at 1080p and 120Hz, plus 33.4 ms at 1080p and 60Hz. Those manufacturer-stated figures may appeal to console and PC players who want responsive control. The projector also lists HDR support, though the final image depends on the source, room lighting, and screen.
Does the laser light source reduce replacement concerns?
Yes, the supplied data lists up to 20,000 hours in normal mode and 38,000 hours in ECO mode. Laser projection avoids the lamp replacement issue associated with traditional lamp models, but the figures are manufacturer ratings rather than independent lifespan testing. The listing does not provide fan noise data, so quiet-scene performance cannot be judged from the supplied specifications.
Does keystone correction replace lens shift?
No, keystone correction and lens shift are different placement tools. The AH500ST listing specifies 2D vertical and horizontal keystone adjustment of plus or minus 30 degrees, but it does not list lens shift. Keystone can square an angled image, while lens shift moves the image optically and may better preserve geometry for a ceiling-mounted setup. I am the person friends ask whether a cheaper projector is good enough. My focus is budget picks and comparisons: where the savings are fine, where they hurt, and what to skip. I write buying guides that start with how you will use the projector and end with a short list, and I try to be upfront about the compromises at every price. My notes follow the site's review methods: research-based comparison, not lab testing.
